Tichu Scoring System

Tichu's scoring system rewards both strategic card play and bold predictions. Understanding how points accumulate—from card values to Tichu calls—is essential for making winning decisions throughout each round.

Card Point Values

Only certain cards carry point values: Kings and 10s are worth 10 points each, 5s are worth 5 points each. The Dragon is worth 25 points (given to an opponent when you win with it), and the Phoenix is worth -25 points. All other cards (2-9, J, Q, A) have no point value. The total points in the deck always equal 100.

Round Scoring

At the end of each round, teams count the point cards in their won tricks. The last player out gives their remaining cards and all tricks they've won to the opponents. If both partners on a team go out first and second (double victory), that team scores 200 points and the round ends immediately—no card points are counted.

Tichu Calls

Before playing your first card, you may call "Tichu." If you then go out first, your team gains 100 bonus points. If you fail, your team loses 100 points. Only one player per team can have an active Tichu call. This bet adds excitement and forces opponents to try stopping you.

Grand Tichu

Grand Tichu must be called before you look at your final 6 cards (when you have only 8 cards). It's worth 200 points if successful, -200 if failed. Grand Tichu is a bigger gamble but can swing the game dramatically. You can only call Grand Tichu OR regular Tichu, not both.

Winning the Game

The game continues until one team reaches 1000 points or more at the end of a round. If both teams exceed 1000 in the same round, the team with more points wins. In case of a tie at 1000+, play continues until there's a clear winner.
