Trick-Taking Basics
Tichu is a climbing trick-taking game. Once you understand the flow of leading, following, and passing, the rest of the rules become much easier.
Leading the Trick
The player with the Mah Jong leads the first trick. After that, the player who last played a combination leads the next trick. Any legal combination may be led.
Following or Passing
Players must beat the current combination with a higher combination of the same type, or they pass. Passing does not remove you from the round; you can play again once a new trick starts.
When the Trick Resets
When all other players pass, the last player to play wins the trick, collects the cards, and leads a new trick. Bombs can interrupt this normal flow at any time.
